Requirements and notes for the tour
  • Physical Requirements:
    Moderate fitness level needed. Expect daily drives of 4–6 hours, with light-to-moderate walking or hiking (up to ~2–3 hours) on uneven terrain.
    Altitude exposure: You’ll reach around 3,000 m at Son-Kul. Mild altitude effects (e.g. headache, fatigue) are possible. If you have heart, lung, or circulation conditions, consult your physician before booking
  • Travel Essentials & Insurance:
    Passport valid at least 6 months beyond trip dates.
    Many nationalities are visa-free for up to 60 days; check your country’s rules.
    Travel insurance covering medical care, trip interruption, and horseback riding is mandatory.
    Keep digital & paper copies of passport, insurance, and emergency contacts.
  • Packing List:
    Clothing: Layered outfits—light base layers, fleece or wool mid-layer, windproof and waterproof outer layer.
    Footwear: Sturdy, broken-in walking/hiking shoes.
    Extras: Sunglasses, hat, sunscreen (SPF 30+), lip balm, reusable water bottle (~1–1.5 L), quick-dry towel, headlamp, personal meds, power bank, universal adapter (220 V sockets).
    Swimwear: For Issyk-Kul, if weather permits swimming.
    Toiletries: Basic kit; remote areas may have limited hot water or shared facilities
  • Cultural Etiquette:
    Hospitality: It’s customary to accept offered tea, bread, or dairy.
    Dress: In villages and cultural sites, dress modestly (cover shoulders and knees).
    Photography: Ask permission before photographing locals, especially in homesteads.
    Shoes: Remove shoes before entering homes or yurts unless invited to keep them on.
    Gifts: Small gifts like fruit or sweets are appreciated when visiting families
  • Accommodation Notes:
    Guesthouses / Homestays: Comfortable, modest rooms. Some places may share bathrooms.
    Yurt Camps: Traditional felt yurts housing 2–4 guests; bedding provided. Toilets/showers may be basic or shared; hot water may be limited.
  • Food & Dietary Info:
    Dietary Needs: We offer Kyrgyz home-style meals. Vegetarian preferences can be accommodated with advance notice; vegan / gluten-free may be more difficult in remote areas—bring your own snacks if needed.
    Water: Filtered or bottled water is provided during travel
  • Transportation & Road Conditions:
    Vehicle: Private 4×4 or high-clearance van with experienced local driver.
    Road Surfaces: Expect a mix of paved highways and gravel/mountain tracks. Some sections may be rough or bumpy.
    Drive Duration: Some days include long drives (up to ~5–6 hours) interspersed with scenic stops and short walks
  • Climate Overview:
    June–September is the main season: warm days (18–28 °C / 65–82 °F in valleys) and cool nights.
    High-altitude spots (Son-Kul, Ala-Kul) can drop to 0–5 °C (32–41 °F) at night—even in midsummer.
    Sudden weather changes are common in the mountains; wind and rain possible.
