Requirements and notes for the tour
  • Physical Requirements:
    Moderate fitness recommended. Daily drives of 3–6 hrs and several light–moderate hikes (up to 12 km) and horseback treks (up to 20 km).
    Comfortable riding a horse for several hours on Days 3 & 7.
    High-altitude segments reach 3,500 m (Ala-Kul) and 3,380 m (Kara-Keche Pass). Travelers with heart or respiratory conditions should consult a doctor.
  • Travel Essentials:
    Passport valid at least 6 months beyond trip dates.
    Many nationalities are visa-free for up to 60 days; check your country’s rules.
    Travel insurance covering medical care, trip interruption, and horseback riding is mandatory.
    Keep digital & paper copies of passport, insurance, and emergency contacts.

  • Cultural Etiquette:
    Kyrgyz hospitality is generous—accept tea and bread when offered.
    Dress modestly in villages and religious sites (shoulders/knees covered).
    Always ask before photographing people.
    Remove shoes when entering a home or yurt unless told otherwise.
    A small gift (fruit, sweets) is appreciated when visiting families.
  • Accommodation Notes:
    Guesthouses & homestays: Clean and cozy, private or twin rooms, shared bathrooms in some villages.
    Yurt camps: Traditional felt yurts, usually 2–4 guests per yurt. Bedding provided; toilets/showers may be basic or shared.
    Hot water can be limited in remote areas—bring quick-dry towel and personal toiletries.
  • Food & Dietary Info:
    Daily breakfast, lunch, and dinner included; a mix of homestyle Kyrgyz meals and café stops.
    Meat (lamb, beef, chicken) and dairy are staples.
    Vegetarian meals possible with prior notice; vegan or gluten-free options are limited in remote areas—bring personal snacks if needed.

  • Transportation & Road Conditions:
    Private 4×4 or high-clearance minivan with experienced local driver.
    Mix of paved highways, gravel mountain tracks, and off-road segments (notably to Altyn Arashan).
    Military truck transfers for Altyn Arashan due to rough terrain.
    Some days include long drives (5–6 hrs) with scenic stops.
  • Climate Overview:
    June–September is the main season: warm days (18–28 °C / 65–82 °F in valleys) and cool nights.
    High-altitude spots (Son-Kul, Ala-Kul) can drop to 0–5 °C (32–41 °F) at night—even in midsummer.
    Sudden weather changes are common in the mountains; wind and rain possible.
